Streatham stretches along the A23 between Brixton and Norbury, with Streatham Common and its surrounding hills to the south and the residential grid of Streatham Vale to the west. The area has no Underground station, so a lot of residents rely on the car, and the roads range from a long, busy high street to steep residential climbs.
Your mock test runs under real test conditions around Streatham, covering demanding roads including Streatham High Road (A23) and Streatham Vale, and heads towards Mitcham Test Centre (4 miles away). Streatham High Road (A23) is long and busy, with bus lanes, crossings and traffic pulling in and out for most of its length. Experiencing these conditions under exam pressure during a mock test means the real test holds no surprises.
We recommend 2-3 mock test sessions in the final 2 weeks before your test. One to identify weaknesses, one to address them, and a final one to confirm you are ready. A mock test is the clearest way to find out whether you are ready before you pay for the real thing.
Exact test-day procedure — from meeting the examiner to the eyesight check, "show me tell me" questions, and the 40-minute drive
The road types, junctions and manoeuvres examiners favour around your local centre — the DVSA has not published official routes since 2010, so we prepare you for the conditions, not a memorised sequence
How the marking system works — understanding the difference between minor faults, serious faults, and dangerous faults
Independent driving sections using both road signs and the sat-nav, including the new "pull up on the right" manoeuvre
Emergency stop technique and the specific situations where the examiner asks for it
Time and stress management so the real test feels like just another practice run
Every area has its unique road conditions. Here is what you will learn to handle confidently with our Streatham instructors:
Streatham High Road (A23) is long and busy, with bus lanes, crossings and traffic pulling in and out for most of its length
Leigham Court Road and the roads up to Streatham Hill are steep and narrowed by parked cars, so hill starts and judging gaps go together
Streatham Common North (A214) climbs with junctions partway up the hill where visibility is limited
Junctions off the High Road are close together, so mirror checks and signalling have to be timed carefully
Weekend traffic around the shops and leisure centre slows the High Road to a crawl
Our instructors share insider knowledge that only comes from years of teaching in this area:
Streatham Vale is quiet and wide enough for first lessons and manoeuvre practice
Leave the High Road until you can move off and stop smoothly without thinking about it
The hills around the Common are the best place locally to practise hill starts in real traffic
Lessons towards Greyhound Lane and Streatham Vale head in the direction of Mitcham test centre
A mock test session lasts 2 hours. The first hour is a full simulated test under exam conditions — your instructor stays silent (just like an examiner) and marks you using the official DVSA marking sheet. The second hour is a debrief where you review every junction, manoeuvre, and decision. You receive a written score sheet showing exactly where you gained faults and specific advice on fixing each one.
Streatham gives you sustained busy-road driving on the A23, real hills for hill starts, and quiet streets to begin on. Mitcham test centre is around four miles away, and the roads towards it through Streatham Vale and Greyhound Lane are part of normal lessons here.
